Alex was born on 10th April 1902 in one of the single end rooms at 2 Blackfriar’s Street, just off Edinburgh’s High Street. Being No. 2 it would be the first stair down from junction

I chose this image from 1962 as the St. Cuthbert’s Van parked at the top of Blackfriars Street belonged to my Brother-in-Law Peter Stanton.

It was on 28th January 1921 that he married Helen Denholm Crawford in Lady Glenorchy Church, Greenside in Edinburgh. He was in the Gordon Highlanders at the time they married and was living in Glasgow in the Maryhill Army Barracks there.

  • Alex. was a Bandsman in the Gordon Highlanders. He is in this photo age 19.
Then the fun began and the family all came along at regular intervals. The only one that died in infancy was Robert in 1931
