The story of a Scots Italian family

QUILIETTI Alfie Giulio 2013

Alfie Quilietti was born in Edinburgh in 2013. This webpage is dedicated to himself and his lovely Parents, Dad Ryan and mum Sarajane. The Italian side of his family can be traced back through many lines to 1650 Tuscany [Barga]. This page goes back to only a fraction of these ancestors- the Quilietti line.

Recent additions to the Quilietti family comes in the shape of these lovely wee bundles.

EMILIO QUILIETTI – My great-great-great-grandad 1868-1899

These photos are of my 3rd great grandad Emilio Quilietti. He came to Edinburgh in 1890 and that is the reason I was born in Edinburgh in Scotland. In 1892 he married Valentina Brattisani in St. Mary’s Cathedral in Edinburgh. Although she was born in Paris, France her mum and dad were from Parma in Emilia-Romagna.

LEONARDO QUILIETTI – My great-great-great-great grandad 1834-1904.

This photo is of my 4th Great Grandad and Grandma. Leonardo Quilietti and Eletta Brucciani. The photo was taken in 1898 in Barga in Tuscany.

Leonardo Quilietti was born in 1835. His mum died in childbirth and she was already a Widow. So he was an orphan. Leonardo was given over to the orphanage in Lucca who looked after him until he was 18. The orphanage was called a Foundling hospital, as in those days many children were orphaned. It was in this orphanage that he was given his unique surname Quilietti. The name was made up of two local names put together. That is why all Quilietti family are related, through our Leonardo.

Leonardo left the orphanage after learning a trade. He moved up to Barga, about 50 miles or so north of Lucca. Here he married Eletta Brucciani and they started their family. Emilio, Augusto, Maria Domenica, Giuseppe, Adolfo and Armenia. You can see their dates of birth on the above document.

Emilio and Augusto came to Edinburgh where they remained. The rest of their brothers and sisters left for America, to Rhode Island, where they remained. You can read about them on this website.

THE FAMILY TREE
