Craig Murray was born on October 1958 in England and is very well known as a British Political Activist a former ambassador to Uzbekistan and currently in the year 2009 the Rector of the University of Dundee.

He was educated at the Paston School in North Walsham in Norfolk, an all boys grammar school where he had an undistinguished record.  He says that he barely gained entrance to the University of Dundee.  He has written a book Murder in Samarkand – a British Ambassador’s Controversial Defiance of Tyranny in the War on Terror.

Craig’s post on the Barga News a couple of years ago sparked a great influx of interest from the Quilietti side when he incorrectly called us Colletti’s.

He has been awarded the Sam Adams Award for Integrity in Intelligence in January 2006.  And he has also been awarded the Premio Alta Qualita’ della Citta’di Bologna.

In the year 2010 David Hare’s witty portrait of an unlikely hero, based on the memoir by Craig Murray. Broadcast on 20 February 2010 on BBC Radio 4, starring David Tennant as Murray.

Just on a more personal note, David Tennant’s aunty Mary has been part of our Quilietti family for the past twenty years.   Mary and David’s Mum, who passed away recently, were sisters.   Mary’s partner is Robert Quilietti,  who is also a second cousin of Craig.

Craig is proud to be sent as Ambassador to Uzbekistan, eager to work hard and also eager for fun. The combination takes him on a dangerous course both professionally and personally, and the stakes couldn’t be higher.
