Peter Stanton was born on 29th October 1908 at a tenement in 91 Cowgate in old Edinburgh. The family had lived in and around the Cowgate since their arrival from Ireland to Edinburgh in 1850. His parents Edward Stanton and Catherine Madigan had been married in 1893 in the Cowgate Chapel of St. Pat’s.
