The Quilietti Family

The story of a Scots Italian family

ARPIN0 Emilia 1916-2007

EMILIA ARPINO was the daughter of Angelina Quilietti and Giovanni Arpino.

EMILIA ARPINO was the daughter of Angelina Quilietti and Giovanni Arpino.

She was born during the First World War on 6th July 1916 at 302 High Street, Linlithgow.

Quoting from Mary Arpino Hunter.

My sister and I were very close, we did everything together.  For a while Emily  worked in the fish and chip shops with her cousin Nardo Quilietti and they remained close for many years.

In the year 1938 she married George Crawford who was the son of Charles Crawford and Margaret Strachan. At this time George was a Cooper by trade and he lived at 54 Broughton Road in Edinburgh. As you can see here Emilia was living nearby at 107 Broughton Road so they have met in the neighbourhood. Records show us that they stayed in the district for many years at No. 54 Broughton Road. Now it may have been that George then became a policeman, I am not really sure, but I recall Mary Hunter telling me this and that their two sons also became policeman. To be confirmed. But I do know that the very prominent Lothians & Borders policeman Willie Merrilees was a friend of the family for many years.

  • CHARLES CRAWFORD, who according to Mary lived in Penicuik
  • JOHN CRAWFORD  lived in Bonnyrigg.

During the Second World War she and sisters Mary and Angelina were part of the Land Army

If any of Emilia’s descendents can help with this part of our family history please be in touch with Helen.
